The new Toyota Corolla Verso: the safest car in its class according
to Euro NCAP

The Toyota Corolla Verso has built on the safety achievements of the Toyota Avensis – following the Avensis with the prestigious award of the five star maximum ranking by [Euro NCAP]. Toyota's strong investment in R&D has ensured that the Corolla Verso has been accorded a record 35 points. This makes it the safest car in its class.

Euro NCAP – what is it?

Euro NCAP stands for European New Car Assessment Programme. It is vital for car buyers to obtain reliable and impartial information regarding the safety performance of different models, and Euro NCAP provides this valuable service. Five European governments, the EU Commission and many European motoring and consumer organisations back it. http://www.euroncap.com

Tough new crash tests

Euro NCAP's new crash tests use incredibly sensitive dummies that record the results of impacts to a greater degree than before. Each of these smart dummies cost around €145,000, and are packed with high–tech equipment. They are designed specifically to assess the protection given to the driver and passengers during frontal and side impacts.

Where quality leads, safety follows

Toyota has always put safety first, and its unique philosophy of 'Superior Quality through Engineering' has ensured that the Corolla Verso reaches new heights in safety standards. From the very beginning of the design and development process, both active and passive safety were given the highest priority.

Top in active safety

Active safety is the state–of–the–art technology that actively assists you in keeping control of your vehicle in any circumstances.

The Corolla Verso has been designed with great attention to active safety, with the features described below coming as standard:

  • Further braking force is provided by a combination of Brake Assist ([BA]), Anti–lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake–force Distribution (EBD).
  • The Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)* and Traction Control (TRC)* boost vehicle stability safety, under low adherence conditions such as rain, snow or gravel, by increasing braking power.
  • The [MacPherson strut] and rear torsion beam suspension gives excellent road holding and stability.
  • Improved visibility is provided by the redesign of the front pillars, electro chromatic rear view mirror & rain sensitive wipers.

Optional active safety features are also available:

  • Cornering assistant monitor – The cornering assist monitor improves driver visibility using a camera in the front grille and colour display screen to provide visibility of objects approaching from left or right.
  • Parking assist system – The parking assist system uses a rear camera to display colour images from the back, with helpful guiding lines.

Top in passive safety

Passive safety consists of all the elements that help to protect you and your passengers in the event of an accident.

Passive safety is provided by innovative, best in class features:

  • The Corolla Verso's strong, rigid body structure is combined with Toyota's Minimal Intrusion Cabin System (MICS). The MICS is a sturdy safety structure that minimises cabin deformation in front, rear and side collisions by absorbing and dispersing impact energy.
  • Nine airbags for all occupants come as standard. This includes a knee airbag to protect the driver, and dual–stage inflators on both front seats. Side airbags provide additional safety, and curtain–shield airbags offer protection to front and rear passengers.
  • All the Corolla Verso's seats feature the Emergency Locking Retractor seatbelts. Front seatbelts incorporate pretensioners and force limiters. Second row seatbelts are equipped with the Automatic Locking Retractor mechanism, which makes it possible to secure a child without using a seatbelt locking clip.
  • Anti–intrusion brake and clutch pedals improve lower leg protection for the driver by decoupling in severe frontal impacts.
  • A two–stage visual and audio seatbelt warning system, for both front passengers, is also standard equipment.

Child safety

ISOFIX anchor points on the outer seats in the second row allow secure fixing of child seats.

Five star safety

Toyota's fine attention to detail, investments in the latest technologies and commitment to excellence have always ensured a place at the top of the safety league. Euro NCAP's highest rating of five stars is the proof of the "safety through design" philosophy of Toyota and establishes the new Toyota Corolla Verso as Europe's safest car in its class.
